Free text to speech
Paste text, press play, and your browser reads it out loud. No account, no upload, no watermark — it all happens on your own machine.
Questions
Is this really free?
Yes, and there is nothing to sign up for. The speech comes from the voice engine already built into your operating system, so there is no server cost to pass on to you.
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
Not from this tool. Browsers do not let a web page record their built-in speech engine to a file. Downloading an MP3 needs a real text-to-speech API, which is what the full AllReads app uses.
Why does it sound robotic?
Because it is your device’s built-in voice, which is free but dated. Premium AI voices from OpenAI and xAI sound close to human — you can hear samples of both on the AllReads home page.
Is there a length limit?
This tool reads up to 5,000 characters at a time, roughly 800 words. Browser speech engines become unreliable on very long passages, so longer documents are better handled by the full app.
