Usage Limits
Last updated: August 16, 2026
AllReads Voices — the voices included with your subscription — come with a fair-use limit of 500,000 words a month. This page explains what that covers and why it is there. If you are reading it because you were worried, you can stop: almost nobody gets near it.
What 500,000 words is
- About 57 hours of listening.
- Close to 1.9 hours every single day of the month.
- Roughly 6 full-length books.
What counts
Only audio spoken by AllReads Voices. Those run on servers we pay for, so they are the only thing there is a reason to meter.
None of the following count toward the limit:
- Your own API key. If you listen with OpenAI or xAI, that synthesis is billed to your provider account, not ours. There is nothing of ours to ration, so it is unlimited.
- The browser voice. It speaks on your device and never reaches us.
- Reading. Saving, importing, highlighting, notes and the library itself are unlimited on every plan. This is a limit on speech, not on how much you keep or read.
When it resets
On the 1st of every month, for everyone — not on the date you subscribed. Unused words do not roll over, and there is no way to spend next month’s early.
If you reach it
Nothing is deleted, nothing is charged, and your library is untouched. AllReads Voices pause until the 1st. The browser voice keeps working, and so does your own API key if you have one saved — so you can keep listening either way.
We will never bill you for going over without asking first. If you genuinely need more, write to us before you get there and we will sort something out.
Fair use
The limit exists to stop a handful of uses that would make a flat price impossible for everyone else — not to ration reading. Specifically, AllReads Voices are for a person listening to their own material. They are not for:
- Reselling, redistributing, broadcasting or publishing the generated audio.
- Bulk or automated conversion — scripts, pipelines, or feeding a catalogue through the app.
- Sharing one account between several people.
Where an account is clearly doing one of these, we may limit the included voices on it. We would rather write to you first, and we will where we can.
Accessibility
If you rely on text-to-speech for a disability and 500,000 words a month is not enough, email allreadshq@gmail.com and we will raise it at no extra cost. You do not need to prove anything to us; just ask.
Changes
If this limit ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and anyone affected gets an email — not a quiet edit.
